Abid Farhan is an artist born in Bangladesh and now living in Ilford, London. His practice explores migration, belonging and (dis)connections to place. Farhan moves between mediums of painting, drawing collage and sound, developing and encoding visual and sonic metaphors to explore his subject matter.
His show ‘Our voices under this surface’ at Turf Projects presented hazy paintings, hazy memories of Ilford interwoven with written reflections from members of his community - an act of collective memory making. Turning to gaps in his own familiar history, Farhan’s most recent EP The Gaps sampled piano pieces recorded by his uncle in Bangladesh and interspersed them with Farhan’s original music combining the life experience and knowledge of both the artist and his uncle.
